8th Dec 2013
I woke the morning of the 8th with a sore throat and feeling off so it was decided we would just take it easy and spent the day wandering around the town soaking in the atmosphere. Punta Arenas is not the most exciting town on the weekend but it is very pretty with some beautiful architecture, it was a thriving port city until the opening of the Panama canal and it is easy to pick the buildings that were built in its hey day.

9th & 10th Dec 2013
The holiday is over and it's time to head home, we get to the airport in time for our domestic flight to Santiago and the check-in lady is very concerned that we are so late - we should have checked in 2 hrs ago because we have an international connection, opps I'm a bit worried at this point but she checks us in and there are no problems, not sure what she was worried about. Andrew disappears into the over priced souvenir shops at the airport and comes out with the elusive Chile snow globe ( our puppy sitter will be happy ) We have a 3 1/2 hr stop-over in Santiago and then our flight is running 1 1/2 hours late fortunately our Qantas Club memberships get us entry into the admirals club so at least we can wait in comfort with food, drinks and internet. Our flight arrives late into Sydney and we miss our connection to Brisbane but there are seats on a later flight so after a very long day that involved the time travel that is all part of crossing the international date line we arrived home tired and happy. What a fantastic holiday and as is the way with holidays it seemed that we had been away forever but only left home yesterday! I'm looking forward to travelling to South America again one day, we only got to see a small portion of this amazing continent, I can hear the Atacama Desert calling to me.
